Founded in 1994, Afrika Tikkun started as a feeding program in Alexandra Township, one of Johannesburg’s most underserved communities. Recognizing that food alone wasn’t enough, the organization expanded its mission to provide education, skills training, and holistic support to prepare young South Africans for the workforce. Nelson Mandela, Afrika Tikkun’s Patron-in-Chief until his passing, praised the initiative as “the finest example of a social development agency in the country.” Today, his legacy continues, empowering thousands of young South Africans to build brighter futures.
